Terms & conditions

The terms that apply when you use our website, repair services, shop, workshops and donations.

About these terms

These terms apply when you use this website or our services — including repairs, buying refurbished devices, workshops, and donating money or devices. They are provided by Geek Community Hub CIC (“GCHUBCIC”, “we”, “us”), 728 High Rd, Leytonstone, London E11 3AJ.

Registered in England and Wales, company number 17230463.

Please read them carefully. If you are a consumer, nothing in these terms affects your legal rights — for example under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.

You can contact us at any time:

Using this website

  • The information on this site is for general guidance. We try to keep it accurate and up to date, but prices, opening times, stock and events can change — please check with us before making a special trip.
  • Repair tips on our blog are shared in good faith. Opening or repairing a device yourself carries risks (including to your warranty and your safety), so please use them at your own risk, or bring the device to us.
  • The text, photos, logo and design of this site belong to us or the people who gave us permission to use them. You're welcome to share links to our pages, but please don't copy our content for commercial use without asking.
  • We link to other websites, such as Zeffy, WhatsApp and the Giving Lottery. We're not responsible for their content or how they work.
  • Please don't misuse the site — for example by trying to gain unauthorised access, or by sending spam through the contact form.

Repairs and data recovery

  • Diagnosis and quotes: we'll look at your device and tell you what we think is wrong and what it will cost before we start any paid work. We won't go ahead without your agreement. If we find something unexpected, we'll check with you again before doing extra work.
  • Back up your data: please back up anything important before handing over your device. We take care with every device, but repairs can occasionally lead to data loss. We are not responsible for loss of data unless it is caused by our negligence or our failure to take reasonable care.
  • Passcodes and accounts: we may need your passcode, or for you to remove features like Find My / Google account locks, to test a repair properly. We only use them for the job, as described in our Privacy Policy.
  • Existing damage: devices that are water-damaged, previously repaired or in poor condition may have hidden faults. Occasionally a repair attempt may reveal or worsen problems that were already there — we'll explain the risks before we start where we can.
  • Parts: we may use good-quality compatible (non-original) parts. We'll tell you if that's the case, and you can ask about the options.
  • Our work: we carry out repairs with reasonable care and skill. Repairs come with a warranty on the work and parts we supplied; the length of the warranty will be shown on your receipt. The warranty doesn't cover new accidental damage, liquid damage, or faults unrelated to our repair.
  • Collection: we'll let you know when your device is ready and keep it safely for you. If it isn't collected, we'll try to reach you several times using the contact details you gave us. If it is still not collected 3 months after it was ready, we'll send you a final written notice (by post and/or email) giving you at least a further 30 days to collect it and pay any charges due. Only after that period ends may we recycle the device responsibly or sell it, as the law allows. We'll securely wipe it first. If we sell it, we'll keep the money left after deducting what you owe us and our reasonable costs, and you can claim it from us.

Buying refurbished devices

  • Our refurbished devices are sold in store. Each one is tested before sale, and we'll tell you about any cosmetic marks or known limitations.
  • Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, goods you buy must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described — taking into account that the item is used. If something is wrong, you're entitled to a repair, replacement or refund, depending on the problem and when it appears. You can reject faulty goods for a full refund within 30 days.
  • Any extra returns or warranty we offer will be shown on your receipt, and is in addition to these legal rights.

Web, app and marketing services

Website, app, SEO and marketing work is delivered by our SproutXP team. The scope, price and payment terms for each project are agreed in writing before work starts, and that agreement applies alongside these terms.

Workshops and events

  • Our workshops are run for the benefit of the community and many are free. Places may be limited, so please let us know if you can no longer attend.
  • Children and young people must have permission from a parent or guardian, and some sessions require an adult to stay with them — we'll tell you when you book.
  • We may need to change or cancel a session (for example, if a volunteer is unwell). We'll let you know as early as we can.
  • We want everyone to feel welcome. We may ask anyone who behaves in an abusive, unsafe or discriminatory way to leave.

Donating money or devices

  • Money: donations made through our site are processed securely by Zeffy. Donations are voluntary and normally non-refundable, but if you've made a mistake (for example, the wrong amount), contact us as soon as possible and we'll do our best to help.
  • Devices: when you donate a device, it becomes the property of Geek Community Hub CIC. We'll securely wipe it and then refurbish it for someone who needs it, use it for training, sell it to fund our work, or recycle it responsibly — whichever is most useful. Please sign out of your accounts and back up anything you want to keep first, as we can't return donated devices or the data on them.

The Giving Lottery

The Giving Lottery is operated by an independent, licensed lottery operator, not by us. If you sign up through our link, your entry is governed by the operator's own terms and rules. You must be 18 or over to play. Please play responsibly.

Our responsibility to you

  • If we fail to follow these terms, we are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our failure or our negligence. We are not responsible for loss or damage that was not foreseeable.
  • We are not responsible for business losses, such as lost profits or business interruption, where you use our services for business purposes.
  • Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot be limited or excluded by law — including your rights as a consumer.

Complaints

If something isn't right, please tell us as soon as possible — in store, by phone or WhatsApp, or by email — and we'll do our best to put it right quickly and fairly.

Changes and governing law

We may update these terms from time to time; the latest version will always be on this page. The terms in force when you use our services are the ones that apply to you.

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and any disputes will be dealt with by the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings in your local courts.
